National Conference on
State, Nation and Civil Society in the Dalit, Bahujan Discourse in Maharashtra

The Department of Political Science a National Conference on State, Nation and Civil Society in the Dalit Bahujan Discourse in Maharashtra on the 12th& 13th of January 2012. The aim of the Conference was to explore and construct the Indian contribution to the ongoing debate on State, Nation and Civil Society with specific reference to the Dalit-Bahujan Discourse. The Conference also explored the possibility of the emergence of an autonomous Civil Society in a caste-ridden unequal social structure of India.
Professor Yashwant Sumant (Dept of Politics & Public Administration, University of Pune) delivered the key note address of this conference. Prof. Sanjeeb Mukherjee (Calcutta University, Kolkata) and Prof. Papia Sengupta (Kirori Mal College, New Delhi), Prof. Raja Dixit (Department of Inter-disciplinary Studies, University of Pune) and Chaitra Redkar (Department of Political Science, S. N. D. T. Women's University), Prof. Chitra Lele (SNDT College of Arts & S.C.B College of Com. & Sc. For Women, Mumbai), Prof. Bharti Patil (Shivaji University, Kolhapur), Prof. Sadanand More (Dept. of Philosophy, University of Pune), Prof. Ashok Chousalkar (Dept. of Political Science, Shivaji University, Kolhapur) contributed in this conference in the capacity of resource persons. The key note address was delivered by Professor Gopal Guru (Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University – New Delhi).
The conference was widely attended by the researchers, journalists, activists and students from different parts of Maharashtra who made interesting contributions in the discussions.
